Anxiety, fear, lack of structure, lack of sleep, overcommitting. Gypsy Girl types are prone to pushing themselves too hard, and when they do they get overwhelmed and can experience dizziness, excessive fear, and the feeling of being disconnected from their bodies. These elements represent motion and flow and the season of autumn. Creative, artistic, passionate, anxious, restless dreamer. Gypsy Girls tend to have a lighter frame and excellent agility. This Power Type also struggles with dry skin and hair and cold hands and feet. Gypsy Girls are prone to weight loss, joint pain, and weakness. How is Audrey Hepburn a Gypsy Girl? This follows through on the theme of the creativity, energy, and restlessness of Gypsy Girls. Anxiety disorders are consistently found to be the most prevalent class of mental disorders in the general population, and women are nearly twice as likely to suffer from anxiety as men. Many mental health practitioners believe that depression and anxiety are two faces of one disorder. In my experience, for Gypsy Girls, this phenomenon shows itself most often as anxiety. While there are many positive attributes to being highly creative, the risk is becoming ungrounded to the extent that the mind takes off and can’t get back down to earth. This flightiness is associated with the air or wind element and Chinese medicine often discuss. They often complain that they can’t focus and may have had this struggle even in childhood. Some of my Gypsy Girls will seek medications, especially prescription stimulants such as Ritalin, Vyvanse, and Adderall, to help with focus and concentration. Others will use caffeine or energy drinks to try to power through a project or meet a deadline. Women are twice as likely to have an eating disorder as men, and of all the Power Types I see, Gypsy Girls are at the greatest risk for anorexia, bulimia, and related eating disorders. In Chinese medicine, it’s the sense of disconnection from the body that allows eating disorders to exist and persist. The mind is simply incapable of understanding or accepting the harm that is being done to the body. Gypsy Girls can get so caught up in their creative endeavors that they forget all about healthy eating. Fatigue is common among women, with around a third complaining of a lack of energy, but it’s a constant complaint I hear from Gypsy Girls. Most of my patients in this category complain of afternoon fatigue and often need a nap to make it through the evening. In addition, when it comes to Gypsy Girl moms, I hear complaints that they don’t have the energy it takes to soothe a grumpy or teething baby, supervise homework, or keep track of teen whereabouts. This fatigue will then sometimes turn into anxiety, depression or even destructive behaviors such as overeating or alcohol and substance abuse. Besides learning how to overcome energy slumps, you’ll establish healthy and sustaining sleep patterns. Gypsy Girls find that late night is a time void of distractions and also responsibilities.
